The ad that caused quite a stir

This is the (in)famous ad that was withdrawn from television after 200 viewers complained that it was offensive. Heinz, which makes the New York Deli Mayo featured in the commercial, pulled the advertisement in response to the criticism.

Viewers told the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) that the ad was inappropriate and unsuitable for children to see. The ASA has not yet decided whether to launch an investigation.

I don’t get this ad, and it does not make me want to try or investigate the product but the gay kiss doesn’t bother me at all…

What do you think ? Funny or bad taste ?

  1. Hey, just so you know the ASA isn’t going to investigate. They said that even if there hadn’t been a scheduling restriction because of the high fat content of the mayonnaise (which mean it couldn’t be shown around children’s programmes) it still would not have investigated. I read it on Media Guardian, so it must be true!

  2. I think I quite like it, though don’t really get it at the same time… Don’t find it shocking either, though they sure have a lot of press for their new range of products now. Don’t really follow the gay New Yorker deli guy… As far as I know they don’t particularly have any kind of gay reputation or anything, do they..?

I’ll probably look into it, but mostly because I like condiments in general…
